DogBreedsFinder

Editorial policy

Trust matters. This page explains how content is created, reviewed and corrected on DogBreedsFinder.

Independence

DogBreedsFinder is independent. We are not paid by breed clubs, registries, breeders or pet-product companies to favour any breed. Where the site features advertising, it is clearly labelled and editorially separate (see our advertising policy).

How breed pages are built

Each breed page is generated from a structured dataset that we compile and maintain. For each breed we record characteristics such as size, weight, life expectancy, temperament keywords, country of origin, breed group, coat type, and numeric ratings on a 0–5 scale for traits like energy, trainability, grooming, shedding and family-fit.

Narrative sections — personality, appearance, grooming, exercise, training, family and living-environment guidance, plus pros and cons — are generated from this dataset using deterministic templates that we have written and reviewed. We do not copy content from other websites.

Sources

Our dataset is informed by publicly available information from national kennel clubs (for example the Kennel Club in the UK, the American Kennel Club, the Fédération Cynologique Internationale), breed standards published by recognised registries, and general veterinary and canine-science references. Where we have noted the primary public source for a breed, we link to it from that breed's page.

Hedged language

Breed averages are starting points, not promises about individual dogs. We use hedged phrases — "often", "typically", "may", "tends to" — throughout the site, and we avoid sweeping claims such as "always", "guaranteed", or "100% hypoallergenic".

Human review

Every breed page is checked by a member of the editorial team before publication. We review the dataset row, the generated content, and the final page rendering. Breed pages display a "last reviewed" date where available so readers can see when content was most recently checked.

Updates

We schedule periodic reviews of breed pages, prioritising breeds with new kennel-club guidance, recent veterinary research, or reader-flagged issues. When we make substantive updates, we refresh the review date.

Corrections

If you spot an error, please tell us using the contact form and choose "Correction request". We aim to review and respond within five working days. Material corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected page where appropriate.
