About DogBreedsFinder
DogBreedsFinder is an independent online directory that helps prospective and current dog owners explore breeds with clear, hedged, plain-English information. We are not affiliated with any breed club, registry or breeder, and we do not sell dogs.
Our purpose
Choosing a dog is a big decision that shapes the next decade or more of a household. Many breed directories online either oversell traits, ignore practical care realities, or push readers towards a transaction. We aim to do something different: present each breed's typical traits, care needs and likely fit honestly, so a reader can decide whether to dig deeper or move on.
What we cover
- Detailed profiles for every breed in our dataset, including temperament, exercise, grooming, training and family-fit considerations.
- Lifestyle category pages — for example "small dogs for flats" or "low-shedding breeds" — to help readers narrow the field.
- A comparison tool for putting any two or three breeds side by side.
- A breed-finder quiz that suggests breeds based on your household, experience and preferences.
How we keep things honest
Every breed page on the site is built on a structured dataset that we compile and review against multiple public sources. We hedge our language deliberately — phrases like "often", "typically" and "may" — because every individual dog is different and breed averages are only ever a starting point. We do not claim any breed is guaranteed hypoallergenic, guaranteed safe with children, or guaranteed easy.
