Choose the Right Dog Breed PDF Print E-mail
Choosing the perfect dog for your family part 2: You must also consider the amount the exercise the dog would need. Usually, bigger dogs need more exercise. They need exercise to burn off the excess energy. So you need to have a bug yard in case you are buying a big dog or you will have to take them for long walks daily (at least twice a day). You should go for a smaller dog in case you are living in a compact apartment. These dogs won't need much of exercise and will easily adapt themselves to apartment life.

You also need to know about the dog's grooming before you buy it. A lot of grooming will be required for dogs that have long hair whereas short haired ones won't need too much of grooming. So in case you are buying a long haired dog, make sure you have ample of time to groom it regularly.

These questions will help you in finalizing a short list and then the choice becomes much easier for you. You can then choose any dog which meets your requirements. See as to what you actually want in your dog. This will help you in making a good decision.

You also need to decide as to whether you want a puppy or an older dog. You must get puppies from some reputed breeder. Contacts a Dog Rescue center in case you want an older dog.

With puppies you are never too sure as to what it will grow up to be. You can mould it in your own way. On the other hand, older dogs already have a preformed temperament. So you can see as to whether the dog will get along with the family or not. It may also have had basic command training and house training previously. However older dogs also have their share of flaws. They may be suffering from some diseases or they may have also suffered mentally with their previous masters. This may affect their behavior. So they may require some form of treatment and care.

Only half of your work is done after you have chosen the right dog for your family, the other half is still left! And that is to make the dog a member of your family! Take care of your dog properly so that it becomes an integral part of your family!
