ImageBoxers became popular in America when they were brought home by men from World War II .They got their name from the fact that they use their front legs when they are fighting. These are big powerful dogs that were earlier used for hunting but later they became popular as military and police dogs especially in Europe.

They are medium sized dogs who turned into companion dogs when people realized its devotion towards its family. These are powerful dogs who weigh around 50 to 80 pounds. Their skull is wide. Their face bears resemblance to Bulldog. They have big brown expressive eyes.

Though medium sized, they are as powerful as the big dogs. A young healthy Boxer is full of flesh and energy. Boxers come in brindle or fawn color. It has black marking on its face, which looks like a black mask. Some may have white markings which looks flashy. A Boxer will not be able to fight in the ring if a large portion of its body is covered in white.

Do not get a Boxer if there are other pets or dog at home. These dogs love the company of small kids. Neuter your Boxer for six months if there are other dogs at your home. This will keep the dog's aggression under control. Keep your Boxer away from toddlers because their energy might just be too much to handle. They are an energetic breed so much so that they can actually knock down an adult with a very passionate greeting.

To keep a check on its energy, you must get your Boxer enrolled in puppy obedience training classes. These classes are a must for them though they can be controlled easily. These dogs pick up the commands easily. Puppy classes will train your boxer to mix well with other pets and dogs. It will also help in socializing your dog. The dogs can also get advanced obedience training. To keep a Boxer, you must have a home with a fenced yard since they are high energy dogs who need to exercise frequently. They can jump over lower fences, so make sure that your fence is high enough to prevent your dog from escaping. They have difficulty in adjusting to apartment life.

Boxers love to eat but you should feed them a food which is made for big dogs, since they can develop hip dysplasia. You can check if they had any history of thyroid or heart disease before you buy them though they are generally free from serious health problems. White Boxers are prone to deafness and other health problems. Boxers don't require too much of grooming. You need to brush your dog's coat once in a week. This will remove all the loose hair. You should also keep you dog's teeth clean. Trim down his nails if they are big enough.

Boxers are very loving and devoted to its family and that's what makes them special. Their devoted nature makes them your perfect family pet. Boxers are sweet, friendly dogs which can also be terrifying to criminals.
