These dogs are very loving and affectionate. They adjust to apartment life quite well. They are quite friendly with other dogs and pets. They also get along well with children though they should be handled properly. Bichon tolerates rough behavior but can get hurt easily. To keep your dog fit and healthy you must take him for walks on a regular basis. This becomes all the more important when you don't have a fenced yard at home. Bischon Fries are a healthy breed. They have no common health problems though they may have dental problems. Because they suffer from dental problems you must feed them with dry food. However, if you feed them soft food, then you must brush their teeth regularly. You should teach your dog some basic obedience commands. You can teach him these commands yourself or send him to puppy obedience classes. This will make sure that your puppy comes back to you when you call him. The obedience class will teach your puppy some socialization skills also. These dogs are very intelligent and they grasp things very easily. They will learn so many skills in such a short span of time that you will want to continue their classes. When fully trained Bischon can perform like trained circus dogs. Bischon do not eat much hence they are easy to keep. Bischon need regular and extensive grooming and that is probably their biggest drawback. His coat needs to cut and shaped once a month. You must brush their fluffy coat frequently. If you don't do this, then your puppy will look like a shabby mop head instead of a beautiful, elegant dog. It will be good if you can do this grooming all by yourself because if you can't then it will become a major expense. They are your perfect companions and if want a dog who is affectionate, loving and sweet, then Bischon Fries may just be the right dog for you. They are sweet, little elegant dogs who can well be your perfect family pet. |
